Why celebrate birthdays? It was in Ancient Rome that the habit of celebrating the day of birth originated. The origin was linked to the idea that, on the birthday, malicious spirits would come to steal the birthday person's spirit, and measures needed to be taken to prevent this. In the past, there was no elaborate celebration, but offerings were already made. The Catholic Church initially considered this tradition a pagan celebration because it was directly connected to superstitions. It was only in the 5th century that the tradition began to be used to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
